RST Race of the Year Returns This Weekend!

The RST Race of the Year returns to Mallory Park this weekend, as part of the East Midland Racing Association season finale on Sunday.

Stars from the racing world are set to line up on the grid, eager to lift the coveted RST Race of the Year trophy.  Now in its 49th year, the event has seen many famous names enter the Mallory Park history books as past winners, and this year Luke Mossey, Luke Stapleford, Richard Cooper and 2016 National Superstock 1000cc Champion Taylor Mackenzie will all be vying to add their name to the records, as well as claiming the top £1,000 winners prize fund.

In addition to the winners prize money, Real Motorsport Limited, the management team at the Circuit, have put up a prize fund for the remaining 14 riders to cross the finish line, with £500 paid for 2nd, £250 paid for 3rd and £100 each for the 4th to 15th placed riders.

Other riders who hope to be in with a chance of securing the RST Race of the Year title, and get their hands on a share of the prize money, include Buildbase BMWs Lee Jackson, FS3’s Billy McConnell, and Morello Racings Leon Jeacock, as well as Fraser Rogers, the Truelove brothers Matt and Harry, Phillip Crowe and, reigning RotY champion John ‘The Ram’ Ingram.

Aside from the day’s feature race, there is plenty of other thrilling racing to look forward to, as the East Midland Racing Association (EMRA) bring two of their championships to a climax with the Buildbase Mallory Trophy and the EMRA 500s.  Regrettably, sidecars will no longer feature on the race programme, however this has made way for two exciting non-championship races, for 48cc-450cc single cylinder machines and 250cc two strokes.  Along with an Open Solos and Mini Twins class, there is a full day of racing action planned to end the season on a high before the long winter sets in.

Gates open at 08:30 on Sunday morning, with spectator tickets charged at just £12 on the day.  For more information, please contact the circuit office on 01455 502214.

RST Race of the Year returns to Mallory Park this October!

The annual end of season RST Race of the Year will return once again to Mallory Park.

This October, the Leicestershire circuit will come alive with racing action, as elite riders from the UKs premier racing championships will battle it out to win the RST Race of the Year and the International Sidecar Race of the Year on Sunday 23rd October.

Mallory Park has hosted the popular end of season event since John Surtees CBE was victorious in 1958; the very first Race of the Year.  This will be the 49th event, and Richard Cooper, Luke Mossey and Taylor Mackenzie are amongst many well-known names set to showcase their skills and conquer the Friendly Circuit in a bid for glory at the 2016 RST Race of the Year.

The management team at Mallory Park have enlisted the expert services of East Midland Racing Association to assist with organising the days racing activities, which will consist of three EMRA Championship Finals including the Buildbase Mallory Trophy final, WAS Auto Centre Sidecar Trophy final and the EMRA CB500s final, and two non-championship open solo races for 600cc machines, and Mini Twins.  The grids for the RST Race of the Year and the International Sidecar Race of the Year will be determined by timed practice.  Cash prizes are on offer for the 1-2-3 finishers in the solo feature race.

Natalie Hansard, for Real Motorsport Ltd says: “It’s great to have the Race of the Year event placed firmly back on the Mallory Park race calendar.  The event is well established, and many racing legends have duelled to take the Race of the Year crown in the past.”

“Regrettably we had to cancel last year’s event, but by combining the RST Race of the Year with the EMRA championship finals, it will allow us to put on a truly varied racing event for fans to enjoy this year, and provide a spectacular end to the 2016 motorcycle race season at Mallory Park.”

Entries for this event are now open, and we would encourage you to complete and return it to EMRA as soon as possible to secure your place on the grid!

Natalie Hansard, Manager at Real Motorsport Limited, “We are delighted that the Hyundai British Sidecar Championship will be part of the 2016 Bike Bonanza. The Bonanza is predominately parade sessions and so we are thrilled that such a prominent British race championship will form part of the weekend.

Stars from the motorcycle world will be in attendance, including 11 times Isle of Man TT winner Michael Dunlop. Live music and a licenced bar will be available on both Friday and Saturday night.

The circuit has faced a number of trials a tribulations over the years, and faced spells of uncertainty. We are especially looking forward to hosting our 60th anniversary event, the Mallory Bike Bonanza.

Three generations to join in Mallory Park’s 60th birthday celebrations

Three generations of the same family will ride together at Mallory Park this July, as Father, Son and Grandson prepare to parade their classic motorcycles alongside one and other in the PR5 parades at the Mallory Bike Bonanza, taking place at the Leicestershire circuit on 30/31 July 2016.

Geoff Cox, E Commerce Commercial Manager at ERIKS, principle sponsor of the Mallory Bike Bonanza will be making the most of the original circuit configuration by parading his machine with his dad and his son alongside him, during Saturday’s road bike parades. ERIKS have been involved with events at Mallory Park for 13 years, and have been the principle sponsors of the Mallory Bike Bonanza since it started 3 years ago.

Geoff Cox, E Commerce Commercial Manager, ERIKS “13 years ago I was asked for ways to promote the business, and after some extensive research I came across the classic motorcycle event held at Mallory Park. I have some very fond memories of the circuit, including visiting as a child in the 70’s to watch my dad take to the track on some very rare classic TT Norton’s, I knew the circuit was the ideal location.

I am enormously proud that ERIKS involvement in Mallory Park continues 13 years on and will continue do so at the Bike Bonanza. Each year, over the course of the weekend my dad and I entertain around 200 ERIKS guests as they enjoy the weekend’s offerings. The 2016 Bike Bonanza will be a memorable weekend for me as not only are we able to join Mallory in their 60th anniversary celebrations but for the first time, my dad Dave, riding the 1988 Kawasaki GPX750R. My son Charlie, riding my favoured 1992 Honda NC30 400cc and myself, riding my 1988 Bimota YB6 1000cc- will all be taking part in the Bike Bonanza parades together.”

The Mallory Bike Bonanza marks the 60th anniversary of the friendly circuit, and the July event promises to be a real celebration of the circuit’s achievements over the past 6 decades. To commemorate the special occasion, circuit operators, Real Motorsport Ltd, have been granted a special dispensation from the ACU to run the PR5 and PR6 parades on the original circuit with no chicanes.

Natalie Hansard, Manager, Real Motorsport Ltd “We are delighted to have ERIKS on board as the principle sponsor of the Mallory Bike Bonanza once again, and we thank Geoff and his team for their continued support.

Being able to remove the chicanes and use the old circuit for the parade sessions is really important to us, as it gives us the opportunity to showcase the circuit as it would have been 60 years ago. This will be a great experience for riders and spectators alike to enjoy and perhaps evoke some nostalgic memories.”

Anybody wanting to experience riding the circuit in its original configuration can do so by downloading the entry form here.
